National Capital Ride, 13–14 September 2008
Equestrian Park, Curtin

Location

The National Capital Ride will again be held in Canberra during what should be beautiful spring weather. The ride will be based at Equestrian Park in Curtin with no dirt roads to travel and close to shops, a hotel, and supermarkets.

Ride distances

  • Main ride – 80 km with standard AERA vetting
  • Training rides – 35 km on Saturday, 45 km on Sunday
  • Social rides – 20 km on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Start times

  • Trainer – 1 pm Saturday, 10 am Sunday
  • Social ride – 1.15 pm Saturday, 10.30 am Sunday.

Vetting times

  • Main ride – from midday Saturday.
  • Saturday trainer and social rides – from midday Saturday
  • Sunday trainer and social rides – from 8 am Sunday.

Course

The course for the main ride will travel through and behind Mt Stromlo, the site of an astronomical observatory with spectacular views across Canberra to the east and to the Brindabellas to the west.

The first leg (45 km) will be fairly hilly while the second leg (35 km) will be less so.

The Saturday trainer will use the second leg and the Sunday trainer the first leg. The social ride will include some undulating terrain but will be easy.

Water restrictions

Due to continuing water shortages in the ACT (our dam levels are well below 50 per cent), riders are requested to use buckets, not hoses, for strapping horses.

Entry fees

  • 80 km – $75 senior, $45 junior (PLUS $5 per horse camping fee imposed by Equestrian Park)
  • Trainer 35/45 km – $45 (PLUS $5 if camping)
  • Social ride 20 km – $25 (PLUS $5 if camping).

A $5 discount applies to members of ACT Endurance Riders Association.

All riders in the 80 km must be current members of the NSWERA. Training and social riders may obtain day membership.

THS

No longer required now EI restrictions have been lifted.
